DESCRIPTION:Tired of winter?  Can’t wait until the Dust-Off Drive?\nThen join your BMW CCA chapter for a fun “Winter Beater” drive on Saturday\, February 8th.  Bring the car that you normally drive in the winter regardless of make on this 50-mile trip (~90 minutes) that will wind us through the South Hills\, past the enormous US Steel plant in Clairton to West Newton before we make our way back north to the Mad Mex in Monroeville for some nice margaritas and food (see map below).  Checks will be separate. \nThe departure location will be the Speedway near Century III mall.  The address is 6999 Clairton Rd\, West Mifflin\, PA 15122.  Due to the short length of the drive the Driver’s Meeting is at 11:20 AM and the drive will start promptly at 11:30 AM. \nAs part of a new initiative we are rating the drives in order to  better inform members of the type of driving they can expect: \nLeisure – A nice drive where you will be able to enjoy the countryside – combination of below speed limit and at speed limit\nSporty – A speedier ride so you can enjoy those curves – at speed limit\nSpirited – Your BMW will be moving through a lot of curves with spirited driving \nThis drive is rated – Leisure. \nThe event is FREE to all attendees but we ask that you RSVP so that we know how many people to expect. \nA GPX file and directions will be provided before the drive.  If you have any questions\, please contact Steve Forest at sforest74@gmail.com \nRSVP BELOW!!

SUMMARY:2019 Street Survival
DESCRIPTION:WHAT:            Tire Rack Street Survival® Teen Driving School \nWHERE:         Pittsburgh International Motorsports Complex\, 201 Penndale Ext.\, Wampum\, Pa 16157 \nWHEN:           Saturday September 7\, 2019 \nSPONSOR:    Allegheny Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America \nDETAILS: \nCar crashes are the leading killer of American teens from ages 15 – 20\, with more than 5\,000 teens involved in a fatal crash each year\, nearly 2\,000 teen drivers killed and an additional 180\,000 teens injured. \nSimple driving errors\, avoidable but common among inexperienced teens\, cause the majority of fatal accidents. \n\nTire Rack Street Survival® is a national driver education program that teaches teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel.  Unlike traditional driver’s education programs based on classroom theory and simple maneuvers\, the Tire Rack Street Survival®  program improves driver competence through hands-on experiences in real-world driving situations.\nStudents will receive a short classroom session and then will learn\, hands-on\, how to manage everyday driving hazards\, obstacles and challenges in a controlled environment on an advanced driving course to ultimately ‘arrive alive.’\nStudents learn emergency braking and skid control\, how to control unintended oversteer and understeer\, and how to avoid accidents entirely. In addition to spending time in the driver’s seat of an 18-wheeler to fully comprehend its massive blind spots\, teenagers witness the violent detonation of an air bag\, which demonstrates the force of the explosive devices.\nStudents are taught in their own cars\, not specially prepared program vehicles\, so the skills they learn can be directly translated to their daily driving experiences.Tire Rack Street Survival® challenges teenagers to understand how to control a vehicle\, rather than just operate one.\n\n  \nTire Rack Street Survival®  is open to licensed and permitted drivers ages 15 – 21.  Forms\, schedules and more information can be found online at www.streetsurvival.org. The cost is $95 per student and some insurance companies offer premium discounts to graduates. \nTo learn more view Participant Testimonial:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trKWDq8rwdk \nREGISTRATION:  https://tinyurl.com/AlleghenySS19 \nCONTACTS: \nChris Williams – Performance Driving Chairman – bmw.drivingevents.allegheny@gmail.com \nGreg Calvimontes – Registrar – gregc@pghccustomht.com

SUMMARY:Become a Drive Meister
DESCRIPTION:The Allegheny Chapter of the BMW CCA offers a wide variety of events\, ranging from social gatherings to autocross to hosting a hospitality tent at the PVGP.  Some of the most important chapter events are the touring drives through the twisty-turny back roads of western Pennsylvania\, West Virginia and eastern Ohio.  After all\, such drives are why many of us bought our Bavarian-designed masterworks in the first place. \nThe club would like to increase the number of annual touring drives we offer.  But we need your help to do so.  We need more members who love to drive and are willing to step up to either lead or sweep. \nCreating and leading a drive is personally exciting and rewarding.  But no one can start in a vacuum.  It takes a lot of support and guidance to gain the experience necessary to create a successful drive. \nWith that in mind\, we will be hosting a Drive Meister meeting at Spaghetti & Steak House at 6371 Wm Penn Hwy (US-22)\, Delmont\, PA 15626 on Wednesday\, April 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. \nExperienced drive leaders will discuss the process and best-practices for running a club drive.  Hands-on support will be offered to anyone who wants to learn how to do a drive.  The intention is to make sure that anyone who has an interest in leading a drive gets all the support they need. \nAttending this meeting does not imply a commitment.  Even if you have just a casual interest\, please come. \nThere is no charge to register for this event.  (The cost of food and drink will be the responsibility of each attendee.) \nPlease register below. \nDirect any questions to Gary Sefcik (gary.sefcik5@gmail) or Glen Beattie (glen5182@gmail.com).

SUMMARY:Tire Rack Street Survival
DESCRIPTION:The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars\, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seat-belts\, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seat-belts\, too. \nThree parents\, including Scott Goodyear\, former Indy Car Champion\, share their perspectives in this video. \nIt’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING! \nAll Schools $95. \nSee our FAQ page at: www.streetsurvival.org/frequently-asked-questions.php \nAny questions after reviewing the FAQ page call Bill Wade\, National Program Manager\, @ 864-438-2060 (8 am – 8 pm EST)

SUMMARY:PVGP Schenley Park
DESCRIPTION:There is no way to predict what the weather will be the weekend of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) but what you can predict is the passion.  The Allegheny Chapter of the BMW CCA brings their hospitality to German Hill like no other.  Every year\, the volunteers from the chapter  bring their passion for the event and for the charity. The ten-day event brings 250\,000 people from all walks of life to witness one of the largest car events in the country.  German Hill is tucked away in the sweet spot of turn 13 with an amazing view of the track and there is plenty of action on the track.  The hospitality of the local chapter\, the car show and the racing is only part of the story.  The heart of the story is the charity – The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School.  Together with the Pittsburgh BMW dealers\, Griot’s Garage and the BMW CCA\, the Allegheny Chapter has raised over $275\,000 for the Grand Prix charities since 2009! You do not have to be a member of the BMW CCA to join us for lunch or take part in our activities in Schenley Park! As always\, all years and models of BMWs are welcome.  Be sure to stop by and say hi! \nBMW CCA O’Fest Website

SUMMARY:PVGP Historic Races
DESCRIPTION:Many of you hear PVGP and think Schenley Park but there is another weekend that happens before Schenley Park that is just as thrilling! Brett Sutton\, our BMW Club Racing Coordinator with the help of Rahal Racing host a hospitality area right in the middle of the BMW paddock. It is an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with the drivers or just to find a little shade from the sun.  A short walk up to the top of Spectator Hill  and you will find yourself in the best spot for a bird’s eye view of the races right where the north track meets the south.  The track is 2.8 miles long with 19 corners and can be conquered by some of our BMW Club Racers in under 2 minutes.  The north track (the older of the two) is getting a fresh coat of paving so you can better believe that it will make for some exciting races this year.  Schenley Park is the highlight of this ten-day event we all call the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix but the racing starts here at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex with the Historics. \nBMW CCA O’Fest Website

It was built around the original trading post\, which was built near the site of Fort Burd\, the latter built by British colonists during the French and Indian War. Construction on the castle\, including addition of a crenellated tower\, continued through the Victorian era\, when it was considered an engineering marvel.
